Five things I do to look put together
Not rules, habits. A neutral base, one trend at a time, one thing to look at, the finishing touches, and wearing what I feel good in.

People ask how I look put together on a school morning, and the honest answer is habits, not rules. These are the five.
I start neutral
Beige, black, white, grey. A neutral outfit is a base, and a base is boring on purpose: it is what lets one thing stand out. Then I add the thing. A pair of earrings, a bag in a colour, a belt that was not part of the plan. That one addition is what makes the outfit mine rather than the shop's.
One trend at a time
Trends are fun and I wear them. Just one per outfit. A trend-led piece next to things I have worn for years reads as a choice. Three trend-led pieces read as a haul. The older pieces are what give the new one its context.
One thing to look at
Every outfit I like has a focal point. A bold blazer, an unusual shoe, a bag people notice. Once I know which piece that is, the rest of the outfit gets quieter so it can do its job. Two things fighting for attention is how an outfit ends up feeling busy even when every piece in it is nice.
The finishing touches
Hair, nails, a little makeup. Not much, but done. A very simple outfit looks finished when the details are, and a great outfit looks unfinished when they are not. This is the part I skip when I am late, and it is always the part I regret.
I wear what I feel good in
The oldest advice and still the truest. An outfit I feel good in shows on my face, and that is what people actually see. If a piece is right on paper and wrong on me, it goes.
That is it. Five habits. None of them cost anything, and all of them fit inside the ten minutes I have.
