Spring, and what I actually reach for
A trench, a midi skirt, a silk blouse, lighter trousers and flat shoes. What I wear in the weeks when the weather cannot decide.

Spring in Sweden is six weeks of weather that cannot decide. These are the pieces that get me through it, and how I think about dressing when the mornings are cold and the afternoons are not.
The trench
Beige or stone, light enough to carry. This is the coat for the months when a wool coat is too much and no coat is a mistake by eleven. It goes over a dress, over jeans, over the trousers below, and it is the piece that makes a plain outfit look intended.
A midi skirt
Something that moves. A floral, a small print, or one soft colour. On a cold morning it goes with a knit and boots. By the afternoon the knit comes off and it is a different outfit. Same skirt, both times.
A silk blouse
White, or a soft colour. This is the piece I put on when I want to look like I tried without looking like I tried. With the trousers it is work. With jeans it is the weekend. Silk is the reason it works in both: it catches the light in a way cotton does not.
Lighter trousers
Linen, or a cotton with some structure, in a light colour or a quiet check. Trousers are where winter lingers longest in most wardrobes, because heavy fabric is comfortable. Swapping them is the single change that makes an outfit look like spring.
Flat shoes
Pointed flats, loafers, a mule. Spring is for walking, and I want shoes I can do a whole day in. A pointed toe keeps a flat shoe from looking like a compromise.
How I put it together
Layers I can take off by lunchtime: a cardigan, a light blazer, the trench. Lighter fabric wherever I can manage it, in colours that look like the season. One small trend if I feel like it, a colour or a shape, on top of pieces I already own. And the accessories kept small: fine jewellery, a crossbody bag, a silk scarf, sunglasses for the first proper sun.
